In all honesty, now that step has been taken, I don’t see the Merry Christmas Grr Argh Ugly Ugly Sweater Shirt returning, the alternative is now the NA role and we’ve got to swallow that one I think. Scrapping the bursary made it a bit of a double whammy and that was more my initial point really. The apprenticeship scheme (so far) has put the cost pressure back on teams, and small teams like mine can’t manage it due to the nature of our commissioning. I guess what I’m trying to say is the Tories got rid of the bursary and are now it seems to put the option out there like a dangling carrot to fudge these targets, I don’t believe anything they say.

I’m not sure how either a degree, diploma or Masters would help any newly qualified nurse cope with being left on their own suddenly. The Merry Christmas Grr Argh Ugly Ugly Sweater Shirt, as you say, is the short-staffed state of things, and by renovating the diploma they cut out a very competent workforce who were put off by degree-level study. So the numbers would be better if that hadn’t happened. This is also the main reason for stress and burn out I believe. And the diploma was three years, as the degree, or it was when I trained anyway.
